Their Romance...
When a friend invited Rob out for drinks in August 2006, he almost declined,
saying he was too tired after a day of cycling.
But that friend also happened to be a mutual pal of Robin's, who was with her at the
restaurant that evening. Lucky for Rob, he mustered up the energy to go. When he
arrived, he got to see Robin dancing for the first time. Although he didn't join her on the
dance floor right away, he was definitely interested.
"I think it was my dancing skills that won Rob over," says Robin, an administrator at a
Chicago area university. "Before he was even home he was texting my friend to ask if he
could have my number. Within a week we started dating and that was pretty much it."
On February 15, 2008, the couple was out in St. Charles for a late Valentine's Day
celebration. As they walked across a bridge over the Fox River, Rob slowed down,
saying he didn't think Valentine's Day was that important.
"He said, 'I actually think that February 15th is more important than February 14th, because
it's the day I am going to ask you to marry me.'" Robin remembers.
Rob, an operations manager for a fitness club company, then got down on one knee.
"It was just the two of us by the river" Robin says. "Then I kind of shrieked. He said, 'Is
that a yes?'"
Their Wedding...
Food, family, fun and friendship played a significant role in Rob and Robin's fall wedding.
Robin and her bridesmaids, prepped for the big day with ease thanks to the salon's
convenient location at Pheasant Run Resort. The bride's strapless ivory and champaign
gown featured beaded accents. Her bouquet included ivory roses, lilies, stephanotis and
greenery. Bridesmaids carried pink roses, lilies and green hydrangeas wrapped in a brown ribbon.
Guests enjoyed a cocktail hour at Pheasant Run's indoor version of Bourbon Street,
followed by the reception in the New Orleans ballroom. Pink lilies in large margarita vases
topped each table.
"Pale pink just seemed like a great accent color," Robin says. "We had no idea the color
combo was so popular and we got many compliments on it."
The couple paid tribute to luck by giving each guest a lottery ticket and a fortune cookie.
The cookies featured the newlywed's names and special quotes about love. Since the pair
are self-confessed foodies, the favors were placed inside Chinese takeout boxes in their
wedding colors. A "lucky penny" also was included inside each box.
For dinner, guests feasted on a mouth-watering spread of pan-seared chicken in wild
mushroom sauce, lobster corn chowder, mascarpone mashed potatoes and field greens.
Adding a unique twist to the celebration was the DJ, who had guests do golf "putts"
instead of clinking glasses to get Rob and Robin to kiss.
"Everyone had a great time, " the bride says. "We pre-selected some golf-expert guests
and members of the bridal party to putt, and most of them missed."
